USES:
This compound is used as a moth repellant, general insecticide, pesticide,
fumigant, germicide, miticide, space odorant, air deodorant, chemical inter-
mediate for dyes and organic chemicals, mildew control agent, disintegrating
paste for molding concrete and stoneware, lubricant and disinfectant. It is
used in the manufacture of 2,5-dichloroaniline, pharmaceutical manufacture,
agriculture (to fumigate soil), manufacture of polyphenylene sulfide resins
(used for surface coatings and molding resins) and organic synthesis.

STORAGE PRECAUTIONS:
You should store this chemical at ambient temperatures, and keep it
away from all oxidizing materials.

SPILLS AND LEAKAGE:
Should a spill occur while you are handling this chemical, FIRST REMOVE
ALL SOURCES OF IGNITION, then you should dampen the solid spill material with
60-70% ethanol and transfer the dampened material to a suitable container. Use
absorbent paper dampened with 60-70% ethanol to pick up any remaining material.
Seal the absorbent paper, and any of your clothes, which may be contaminated,
in a vapor-tight plastic bag for eventual disposal. Solvent wash all contamin-
ated surfaces with 60-70% ethanol followed by washing with a soap and water
solution. Do not reenter the contaminated area until the Safety Officer (or
other responsible person) has verified that the area has been properly cleaned.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES





SKIN CONTACT:
IMMEDIATELY flood affected skin with water while removing and isolating
all contaminated clothing. Gently wash all affected skin areas thoroughly
with soap and water.
If symptoms such as redness or irritation develop, IMMEDIATELY call a
physician and be prepared to transport the victim to a hospital for treatment.

INHALATION:
IMMEDIATELY leave the contaminated area; take deep breaths of fresh air.
IMMEDIATELY call a physician and be prepared to transport the victim to a
hospital even if no symptoms (such as wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath,
or burning in the mouth, throat, or chest) develop.
Provide proper respiratory protection to rescuers entering an unknown
atmosphere. Whenever possible, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
should be used; if not available, use a level of protection greater than or
equal to that advised under Respirator Recommendation.

EYE CONTACT:
First check the victim for contact lenses and remove if present. Flush
victim's eyes with water or normal saline solution for 20 to 30 minutes while
simultaneously calling a hospital or poison control center.
Do not put any ointments, oils, or medication in the victim's eyes without
specific instructions from a physician.
IMMEDIATELY transport the victim after flushing eyes to a hospital even if
no symptoms (such as redness or irritation) develop.

INGESTION:
DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. If the victim is conscious and not convulsing,
give 1 or 2 glasses of water to dilute the chemical and IMMEDIATELY call a
hospital or poison control center. Be prepared to transport the victim to a
hospital if advised by a physician.
If the victim is convulsing or unconscious, do not give anything by mouth,
ensure that the victim's airway is open and lay the victim on his/her side with
the head lower than the body. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. IMMEDIATELY transport
the victim to a hospital.

SYMPTOMS:
Symptoms of exposure to this compound include irritation of the skin,
eyes and throat [033,051,058,151]. Irritation of the nose may occur [036,
058,102,295]. Irritation of the mucous membranes and lungs may also occur
[301]. Other symptoms of exposure include weakness, dizziness, weight loss
and liver injury [033]. Exposure may lead to drowsiness, allergic purpura,
acute glomerulonephritis, dermatitis and lens opacities [295]. It may also
lead to hemolytic anemia, liver necrosis, headaches, periorbital swelling
and profuse rhinitis [346]. It can cause anorexia, nausea, vomiting, jaun-
dice and cirrhosis [051,071,346]. Allergic skin reactions and damage to the
liver and kidneys occur [269]. Unspecified changes may occur in the eyes,
lungs, thorax and respiratory system [043]. Other symptoms of exposure are
hypersensitivity, oliguria, refractory anemia, dyspnea, petechial and purpuric
rash, swollen hands and feet, cataracts, coughing, hypochromic anemia, granulo-
cytopenia, aplastic anemia, congestive heart failure, nephrosis, inflammation
of the mucosa, methemoglobinemia, leukemia, myeloblastic leukemia, myelo-
proliferative syndrome and death [173]. Central nervous system effects have
been reported [301]. Pulmonary granulocytosis has also been reported [395].
Hepatic enlargement may occur [099]. It may cause pain to the eyes and nose,
swelling and inflammation of the nose [051 071]. It may also cause irritation
of the upper respiratory tract, a slight burning sensation and red blotching
of the skin due to allergic reactions [058]. Vertigo may result from exposure
[421]. Other symptoms may include asthenia, hypogranulocytosis, hyperleuko-
cytosis, numbness, clumsiness, ascites, elevated serum bilirubin and elevated
alkaline phosphatase [430].
